On Saturday, February 17th, the Marist Men’s Basketball Team partnered up with the Diversity Council, as well as the Fox Pride Club to sponsor the first-ever Marist Pride Basketball Game! Families and fans were greeted when walking into the McCann Arena by Frankie the Fox, wearing a pride t-shirt to show his support for the LGBTQ community. In addition, attendees who signed the Fan Inclusivity Pledge at the door received a free Marist pride shirt.

The Red Foxes were able to take home a win over Saint Peter’s University, with a final score of 69 to 51. Head Coach Mike Maker said, “I thought we played as well in the second half tonight as we’ve played all year and it’s a really well-coached team we played against today. (Saint Peter’s head coach) John (Dunne) does as good a job of anybody, especially defensively”.

Junior, David Knudsen excited about the win!

Leading scorers included junior Ryan Funk, who scored 24 points, as well as David Knudsen who scored 12 points for the Foxes.  “We believe in equality for all people, and this certainly also includes the LGBTQ community and their rights. We were happy that we could use our platform to get this message of equality across, along with a win,” said Knudsen. In addition, sophomore Tobias Sjoberg and junior Brian Parker played a fantastic game adding a total of 18 points on the scoreboard. Great job boys!

Stay tuned for updates as the Red Foxes take on Niagara University on February 23rd in Niagara Falls, NY. Go Foxes!
