The pressure of choosing a college or university you want to spend the next four years at can be overwhelmingly stressful. In order to make your decision easier or to see if a school is right for you, here are a few questions to consider asking your tour guide!
Do a lot of students go home on the weekends?
When choosing a college this could be a big deal. If you’re going to be someone who stays on campus on the weekends you want to make sure your friends will to! Ask some questions about the student body and how many of the students are commuters.
Is there Greek life on campus?
Greek life is a great way to get involved in several different activities, service projects, and weekend events. However, it’s not for everyone. If this is something you want to be involved in in college look more into the schools different activities and clubs.
Do I have to know what I want to major in right away?
If you are someone who is completely undecided, you want to look into a school that has a variety of different majors and minors so you will not have any conflicts when choosing your major.
What is the general class size for students?
If you’re anything like me, lecture halls are not my first option. But for others, some students would prefer a large class size over a small one. This is definitely important to know for your academic benefit.
Do you honestly enjoy the food here on campus?
Food for students is a BIG deal. You want to be able to have different options to avoid getting sick of the food. You should also look into if there are other options outside of the main dining hall to eat at.

What do you wish you would have known going into your freshman year?
Most tour guides have already completed a semester as a freshman or are upperclassman. They’ve experienced plenty and can definitely give you good insight of what you should know on your first year away from home.
Most importantly, do not be afraid to ask questions! Choosing a school is a big deal and tour guides have all the answers of what you need to know. No question is a bad question!
